Abstract:
The Online Bus Ticket Reservation System (OBTRS) is a web-based application designed to
operate within a centralized network, providing an efficient platform for reserving bus tickets,
managing cancellations, and handling route inquiries. This project reviews the implementation of
OBTRS, developed specifically for bus transportation systems to streamline seat reservations,
manage passenger details, and oversee bus operations. The system aims to digitize and automate
the traditional process of ticket booking and tracking, ensuring faster and more reliable service.
The case study for this project focuses on VIRUNGA LTD, a key transportation company
strategically important to Kigali State. The Structured Systems Analysis and Design
Methodology (SSADM) was used for system development, along with the Waterfall model,
which breaks the process into distinct phases: analysis, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
Data was gathered through observation, interviews, and document analysis.
The system was developed using a combination of web technologies, including HTML, CSS,
JavaScript, and PHP, with MySQL serving as the database. The OBTRS system represents a
significant advancement in managing bus ticket reservations, offering travelers an easy and
efficient booking experience while enabling operators to optimize resource management and
enhance operational efficiency.
