THE KIGALI INDEPENDENT UNIVERSITY (ULK) MAPPING SYSTEM: ENHANCING CAMPUS NAVIGATION AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Abstract

The main purpose of this dissertation is to identify the lack of an enhanced mapping system at Kigali Independent University and to design a robust one for the university’s use. In detail, the intended purpose xiii is the production of a user-friendly map which will increase the chances of utilization and efficiency in responding to the needs of navigating the campus as well as the management of the resources well. The research employed in the study is combination of user research and design including the following; Questionnaires were used in order to evaluate present problems in navigation and resources management on campuses. From the feedback received, a mapping solution plan was formulated and implemented through the use of enhanced Asynchronous web design methodologies, including Location tracking, Map direction, and Resource status matrix. The outcome of the study shows that the development of the new mapping system play an integral role in improving the performance of user experience because of accurate navigation aids and efficient resource utilization. The users’ actual experience as a source of information proofs the significant effectiveness of the new system with focus on the simplification of navigation and organizing the access to the resources all over the campus. Therefore, this dissertation proves that effectively designed mapping can cause a positive shift in the way campus is navigated and the resources are allocated in it. The work is relevant to further development of similar systems in educational organizations and stresses the significance of such user-oriented approaches in the management of campus infrastructure
