dc.description.abstract This dissertation explores the transformative potential of blockchain technology in enhancing healthcare procurement processes at Rwanda Medical Supply Ltd (RMS Ltd). The healthcare sector is critical to public well-being; yet traditional procurement methods face significant challenges, including inefficiencies, lack of transparency, and security vulnerabilities, which compromise service delivery. RMS Ltd, established in 2017, is essential for the procurement, storage, and distribution of health commodities in Rwanda. However, it suffers from common pitfalls associated with traditional procurement systems, necessitating innovative solutions. Digital transformation through technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and blockchain offers promising pathways for improvement. Blockchain, characterized by its decentralized and immutable nature, provides opportunities to automate workflows, enhance transparency, and improve security in procurement. This study hypothesizes that blockchain can significantly bolster the efficiency, transparency, and security of RMS Ltd's procurement processes. It will investigate current challenges, assess the benefits of blockchain integration, and compare its security features with traditional systems. By addressing these aspects, this dissertation aims to contribute to the understanding of blockchain's role in healthcare procurement and offer actionable insights for RMS Ltd and other organizations pursuing digital transformation. The findings will enhance the existing body of knowledge and support improved procurement practices in the healthcare sector.
