Abstract:
This study entitled “Structural design of a residential apartment, in Burera district, Buttaro
sector” is aimed to design a G+4 apartment building in Butaro sector of Burera district that
would facilitate workers, foreigners and trading in Butaro sector and its surroundings as the
existing ones did not meet the quality requirements of a modern residential apartment in relation
to the country vision and also take large area compared to the services, they produce that’s why I
propose G+4 apartment. This study carried out the architectural and structural design of
elements. Architectural concepts are carried out by mean of ArchiCAD software and the analysis
focused on all structural elements such as foundation, beam, slab, column and stair According to
the applied loads the critical members was designed and required steel reinforcements provided.
Detailed document containing all required information regarding steel arrangement kept in
appendices.
This proposed building has total area of 441.6 m
2 with width of 16.00 m and length of 27.60 m,
story height is 3.2 m each. For structural design of members also have been achieved for slab,
column and beam; and prokon for footings with considering the controlling load combination on
ultimate limit state design so, designed building is safe and economic, sections and
reinforcement are provided and shown in chapter 4. Reinforcement in critical beam is 5T12mm,
tirrups R8@150mm top and bottom, for critical column is 6T20@150mm and for slab is
4T10@200mm footing have 12T16mm @200mm, stairs have 5T12 mm @200mm.Objectives
