The financial performance of educational institutions, particularly technical secondary schools, is significantly influenced by their stock management practices. This study focuses on the contribution of effective stock management to the financial performance of Kanyinya Technical Secondary School (TSS) in Rwanda from 2019 to 2023. Stock management encompasses the processes involved in overseeing and controlling the ordering, storage, and use of materials and products that a school requires for its operations. In the context of Kanyinya TSS, effective stock management is crucial not only for maintaining an adequate supply of educational materials but also for optimizing financial resources. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis with qualitative interviews to assess how stock management strategies impact financial performance indicators such as budget adherence, cost savings, and resource allocation efficiency. The findings indicate that schools with robust stock management systems experience improved financial outcomes due to reduced waste, better procurement processes, and enhanced accountability in resource utilization. Specifically, Kanyinya TSS has implemented various stock management practices that have led to significant cost reductions and improved service delivery.
Key factors contributing to effective stock management at Kanyinya TSS include inventory tracking systems, staff training on procurement best practices, and regular audits of stock levels. This study underscores the importance of integrating effective stock management into the operational framework of technical secondary schools like Kanyinya TSS. By adopting systematic approaches to inventory control and fostering a culture of accountability among staff members, educational institutions can enhance their financial performance while ensuring that students receive quality education through well-managed resources. Recommendations are provided for policymakers and school administrators on improving stock management practices to achieve sustainable health within Rwanda’s educational sector. |
