dc.description.abstract The development parts in many countries as well as in the world are of the way to improve the economy through the improvement of transportation. Today many countries of Africa are encountering the serious problems according to the inadequate transportation and communication infrastructure. Rwanda is among these countries which have problems of transportation and that always have intention of improving transportation communication. Getting information about the alignment of ditch will help in solving the key problems caused by inadequate transportation infrastructure. This project is project of road ditch design will not be used for the whole road length , it will be used for the on part of it. That place is from CYASEMAKAMBA to Centre S t Joseph hotel, it will be in the trapezoidal form in its cross section which have 900m in length, 0.4m in depth, 0.6m of top width and 0.4m of the base. Thus, this project having the main objective of designing geometrical elements of earth ditch. That is one of the ways which can be used to deal with the problems resulting in use of inadequate transportation infrastructure that undermined the speed of development. The different analysis have been conducted; some of them have been done using data collected on site with Total Station and analysed with software like ArcGIS and AutoCAD COVADIS. Based on the design, the criteria at the end of this project, is the analysis of that collected data in the way of resulting final product. Roads are one of the most important infrastructures that enable human movement and transportation of goods and services. Road construction has been one of the most significant factors that have shaped the modern society and made it more accessible and connected. The construction of roads have been an ongoing process since the ancient times and continue to evolve with the growing demands of modern society. In this project, we will discuss and carry out road construction, and deal with styles used in water catchment procedures for modern society and its impact on various aspects of human life. 11 Roads play a crucial role in the economic development of a region or country. They provide a convenient and efficient mode of transportation for goods and services, thereby contributing to the growth of the economy. Improved road infrastructure enables the smooth flow of goods and services, thereby reducing the transportation time and cost. This, in turn, makes the goods and services more accessible to a larger audience, leading to increased trade and commerce. Improved road infrastructure ensures safer transportation for passengers and goods. Properly constructed and maintained roads reduce the risk of accidents and make transportation smoother and more efficient. Furthermore, well-lit roads and proper signage also improve road safety and make it easier for drivers to navigate through unfamiliar areas. In addition to the economic and social benefits, road construction can also have positive environmental impacts. For example, improved road infrastructure enables the efficient transportation of goods, reducing the number of vehicles on the road and reducing emissions. Additionally, the use of environmentally friendly construction materials and techniques can also reduce the negative impact of road construction on the environment. Road construction is a crucial aspect of modern society and has a significant impact on various aspects of human life. Improved road infrastructure promotes economic development, enhances accessibility and connectivity, provides employment opportunities, improves transportation safety, and has positive environmental impacts. Therefore, it is essential for governments and organizations to invest in road construction and maintenance to ensure that the benefits of modern society are accessible to all. Importance of road construction for modern society can be seen in its role in: Economic development Improved accessibility and connectivity Employment activities Safer transportation Environmental benefits. 12 Roads will affect the natural surface and subsurface drainage pattern of a watershed or individual hillslope. Road drainage design has as its basic objective the reduction and/or elimination of energy generated by flowing water. The destructive power of flowing water increases exponentially as its velocity increases. Therefore, water must not be allowed to develop sufficient volume or velocity so as to cause excessive wear along ditches, below culverts, or along exposed running surfaces, cuts, or fills. Provision for adequate drainage is of paramount importance in road design and cannot be overemphasized. The presence of excess water or moisture within the roadway will adversely affect the engineering properties of the materials with which it was constructed. Cut or fill failures, road surface erosion, and weakened subgrades followed by a mass failure are all products of inadequate or poorly designed drainage. As has been stated previously, many drainage problems can be avoided in the location and design of the road: Drainage design is most appropriately included in alignment and gradient planning. This project should deal with collecting data, analysing data, earth work excavation, culvert. en_US
