Abstract:
It is true that both men and women are the victims of human rights abuse, the effects of these
crimes obviously differ based on the perpetrator's gender. Research on the topic show that every
act of violence against women has one or more characteristics that act as the basis for its definition
as gender-based violence. Despite the increasing acceptance of gender-based violence as a crime
under both national and international law, in Rwanda many victims still encounter great difficulty
obtaining justice. This paper clearly explains specific challenges that can arise in the investigation
and prosecution of gender-based violence under Rwandan law, as well as proposing solutions to
these problems.
